Found some old pictures from before I started updating and figured I would post them. I suppose it’s only a pine cone and eagle rock.
A short 5 miles or so into Wrightwood was the plan. We got into town and there was a bunch of hikes here and ended up spending the majority of the evening in bars. A good rest but probably a bad morning.
About 20 miles from Wrightwood, so far the plan is hike a mile or so from town and camp to spend a rest day tomorrow. My left shoe has started to break removing all support and causing me to walk lopsided. Pretty sure something will start hurting from this, going to try to Rig something in town tomorrow to hold it for a little longer.
Camped a short 9 miles from I-15 which just happens to have a McDonalds less then a half mile from the trail. Ate enough fast food to feel a little sick now back to the trail. Ended at 347.14.
Hot morning, did a quick 4 miles to the first spring. 12 miles to the next water supposedly, about 6 miles later I came across a nice lake and took a quick swim to cool off. Waiting out the heat of the day here. Ended @ 333.74.
Hikes 9 miles or so to the hot springs and soaked for a bit. Had a nice lunch and took off in the evening. Good thing the last 4 miles or so was completely exposed and would have been brutal with the sun. Saw 3 snakes, thankfully all friendly. Camped at mile 313.41.
Chilled at camp until about 1:30 pm and Royce finally caught up with a good story on why he was late. Arrested for hitch hiking, at least he got out and caught up. Ended at mile 298.32.
I Woke up and took a nice stroll through the forest. About 5 miles in there was no more forest due to a forest fire about 6 years ago. Took a nice short day to try and let Royce catch up. Camping near a stream @ mile 285.69. Another cold night, down to 30.
Got back to the trail a little after 9. Took a short hike to the first camp area with water and a privy and rested a few hours in the sun to sweat out the beer. Watched a lizard climb on a log for an hour or so, real compelling stuff.
Got into Big Bear city, took about a half hour to get a hitch. Resupplied then meet up with Tubby and Buffy who had steaks and beer waiting for us :). After dinner we hitched into Big Bear lake from the bus stop, figuring either someone would pick us up or the bus. 2 guys pulled over and picked us up because they had to find out why we were laughing so hard while hitching. So a positive attitude got us a ride to town. Finally got wrapped up about 10 and started the attempt to hitch back to the trail. No luck after about a half hour we started walking to a near by mountain dirt road to camp. Just before we got there someone picked us up. On the ride back to the trail Kirby offered us to stay in his camper so we did. Had a few beers and a real good night. Kirby is a wood carver at big bear lake and had a lot of cool photos of his work (www.bigbearcarvings.com).
